Mr. Vick, English
What's up Panther Nation! I'm proud to say this is my 6th year at Climax Scotts teaching High School Language Arts and Computers. Before I came to CS, I spent a year teaching at Rockford Auburn High School in Rockford Illinois teaching within their gifted Academy program. The year before that I taught Composition and Reading at Mid-Michigan Community College in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. I finished my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Central Michigan University where I received a degree in teaching, majoring in Language Arts and minoring in Physical Education. (Go! Fire up Chips!!!)
Any student who has ever been in my class knows that I love what I do. I love teaching the excellent children of this community and I love showing them both the cool side of language as well as the challenging side. My courses strive to show students how to use the English language to their benefit, whether it be practically or creatively. My teaching style is the bi-product of enthusiasm, rigor, and attention to detail. We work hard in my classes, but we also try to have some fun and be creative as well. Above all: I expect students to do their best at all times! As the saying goes, "If there's a will, there's a way!"
I not only have been employed at C-S for the past 5 years, but also I have lived in the Climax community as well. My wife and I have lived in small towns for most of our life. We have loved the small town culture of Climax ever since we first made it our home. It was easy to assimilate here because it reminded us so much of our childhoods. We especially enjoy going for walks through town and waving to friends as they pass by. It has been very rewarding to live in such a friendly place. Our four year old son, Brayden, has lived here his entire life and has been babysat, daycared, and loved by many wonderful people in the Climax community. You might have seen him and his mother in the stands these past 5 years cheering on the girls and boys' basketball teams. We also have two dogs, Flash and Small: who I am sure you have seen running in the opposite direction of our home (we have a couple escape artists on our hands - it is no secret!). I love to read, write, play basketball, coach basketball, and watch basketball (basketball season never stops!). I play lots of fantasy football, baseball, basketball, and hockey and also enjoy listening to music (hard rock!), watching movies and sports, and writing about music, books, movies, and sports.
Advice for Climax-Scotts Students: 1) Always do your best! 2) Find a good book to read! Get outside and move! Play basketball! **wink, wink** and 3) "This above all; To thine own self be true!" from William Shakespeare's "Hamlet"
Here are some great quotes I have always lived my life by: "There goes my hero, watch him as he goes, there goes my hero, he's ordinary" - from the Foo Fighters "My Hero" (Ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things!!!) "Today is the greatest day I've ever known, can't live for tomorrow, tomorrow's much too long" - from the Smashing Pumpkins "Today" (The best day to improve your life is today!!!) "... the powerful play goes on and you will contribute a verse" - from Walt Whitman's "Oh Me, Oh Life" (Make the world a better place than how you found it!!!)
