Mrs. McKenzie, Teacher, Grade 3
Meet kara mckenzie:
What role do you have here at C-S Elementary and how long have you been here?
I started teaching in 1986 in Virginia, but have been at Climax-Scotts since 1994. I’ve taught all subjects 2nd through 5th various years.
Why did you decide to work with students in education?
I like the challenges and love the time I spend with the children. I enjoy listening to them and trying to understand what makes them who they are and how I can help them. There never seems to be time to do all the things I wish to do to see them become better people and interested learners.
Can you name 2-3 fun educational activities you do with your students throughout the year?
I wrote a book for my students to read and enjoy as a whole class, presented a chapter a week. I write a play each year for my children to perform.
Would you like to share personal information about you or your family or your own hobbies?
My husband and I are from the Upper Peninsula, just over the bridge. We have two grown kids. I write women’s Historical novels in the summertime and have finished three. My book, A Gate Called Beautiful was ranked in the top five on a Harper Collins Website called Authonomy. I graduated from LSSU with an Early Childhood Associate’s Degree and from NMU with a degree in Education K-9 all subjects.
