The American Legion Department of Michigan offers several outstanding programs and scholarships designed to help students develop leadership skills, explore career paths, and earn scholarship support.
Boys State (June 21–27, 2026 | Hillsdale College)A week-long civic leadership experience for rising senior boys where students build and operate a mock state government while learning about the democratic process.
Girls State (June 14–20, 2026 | Michigan State University)A hands-on leadership and government program for rising senior girls that focuses on teamwork, civic engagement, and how government works.
Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Program – Student Trooper (July 19–24, 2026)Students interested in criminal justice can train alongside Michigan State Police and experience activities like crime scene investigation, K-9 demonstrations, and emergency response training.
Skilled Trades ScholarshipsTwo $1,000 scholarships (renewable for a second year) are available for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades such as construction, manufacturing, or automotive technology. Application deadline: April 3, 2026
Students interested in leadership, public service, law enforcement, or skilled trades are encouraged to explore these opportunities.
